Teddy is a white German Shepherd and his arrival at the Sanctuary in 2006 was a bit strange !
There was, as there are frequently, an accident on the bend outside the house and the Police were in attendance.
We were taking the Pigs food across the road when a man in a van arrived, stopped & started talking to the policeman. Whether it was true or not we will never know, but he claimed that he had picked up a dog that was running loose on the road
and he had picked him up to prevent him getting run over.
The Policeman said they would take him to a pound but were not sure what would happen to him. Then one came over to us and asked us if we would take the Dog as he knew we were a Sanctuary.
We went to have a look at Teddy and agreed to take him, as we were fearful he would just become another euthanasia statistic as do so many poor dogs that end up at a pound.
First thing we did was to run him to the nearest vet - Andrew Scotts in Purleigh - to ask them to see if they either had a record of him or whether they could check for a chip. There was nothing on their records & they ran a scanner over Teddy, but no chip. I said OK thanks & made out to leave - Hang on, they cried out, that's £18.50 please....
You know we have 300 rescued animals don't you - I said... but it made no difference. I checked their office dictionary before leaving & as expected the word compassion had been cut out.
As Teddy was a young Dog we did try to see if anyone would want to take him, but after six months & when no-one had, he had become so settled with his friends that we decided that he should stay here.
Don't seem to have any decent pictures of him, but as soon as I do, they will appear here
