Poppy - Update November '07 Poppy ill
Poppy arrived in October '07 and is not normally the type of dog I take in as she is only a youngster.

We tend to focus on the poor souls who are old and unhomable, however Poppy falls into the difficult to home category as she is a staffie type but has some US bulldog in her & the main reason we wanted her out of the pound was to prevent the wrong sort of people getting hold of her as she was not spayed. i.e. she would have probably be bred with a Pitbull & used to make money etc

She enjoys playing with Simon the Mastiff as you can see in the picture !

Please Help Us

I will get some more pictures of her posted soon, I just have not had a chance to take any decent ones yet ! (can't think why?..)

Poppy is very excitable & will certainly be looking for someone to take her on the next Charity Dog walk on 2nd Dec !!

Thank you

As you may have read on the latest news page, Poppy has developed a prolapse of her reproductive organs.

The first vet she saw wanted to put her to sleep as the examination had revealed that the prolapse was being caused by an enlarged "polyp" in her vulva & it was inoperable as it was too close to her urethra. When we insisted on a second opinion, a senior vet had a look and suggested that the enlargement may be due to hormonal activity and suggested that if Poppy were spayed, the swelling may reduce enough to allow surgery to remove the polyp in about four weeks time.

Poppy had the operation & is now recovering at home. Her prolapse is still there and will hopefully reduce and "go back inside her" over the next few weeks. We are keeping her separate from the others at the moment and she has to wear a plastic collar for the next week as her spaying scar is quite large & she must not be allowed to lick or chew it as it will open up if she does
Here is Poppy in her collar.

We could have simply let the first vet put her to sleep, but we thing it is only fair to give her a fighting chance. She is such a youngster (18 months) & has spent much of her short life in a pound. She has been having such fun playing with the others in the short time she has been here.

If you are able to help with the cost of her vetinary care, even a £1 or a $ would be appreciated, please get in touch. The Sanctuary has a Paypal attached to my e mail address of fiona@towerhillstables.com

Please be warned however that it is not a pleasant looking thing.

It cannot simply be popped back in either as the swollen polyp inside is preventing this

UPDATE: Poppy made a fantastic recovery, the prolapse has completely gone & she is as fit as a fiddle. We are so relieved that we insisted on a second opinion as if we had just taken the first vets word, she would be dead now.

We are still appealing for funds to cover Poppy's operation, so if you can spare anything at all, please get in touch as above - thank you
