Monty & Judy were my first two rescues, They came from K9 Care originally in Harlow, Essex. They were found roaming the streets of Harlow in 1995
Sadly Mr Monty had a stroke early in 2007 & we lost him. Judy is still going strong though
When we decided to rescue a dog we went to K9 Care on a Friday night having telephoned them earlier in the week to arrange an appointment. When we arrived, the lady opened the door of the room we were in & in scampered Monty & Judy. The lady said "Choose"
Well - how can you choose? - We said we would take both & the Lady was delighted. This should have set a tiny alarm bell ringing as her delight was almost too much...
We said we would come & collect them over the weekend - but the lady said can you not take them now? We said but we have no beds for them - The lady produced beds (as if by magic). Then we said, but we have no bowls for food & water. The lady produced bowls. But we have no food in for them - Yes, you guessed it, the lady produced a supply of food.
So we said OK, we'll take them both now.
By the time we got them home & into the house, we soon realised why she had been keen to get them out quick. Neither Monty or Judy were house trained & there was soon wet patches & mess all over the place.... it was fun
Over the next 6 months we tried everything to get them to "go" outside, even taking Judy who was by far the worst offender to a Dog therapist. Her suggestion was that we took Judy for a walk last thing at night & then put her into a dog travel box to actually sleep, making sure we let her straight out in the morning to do her business. The theory was that given that the travel box would effectively be her "bed" she would not mess on it as to quote the therapist "no dog will mess it's own bed" - ha ha ha - you can imagine the scene in the morning, Judy was splashing about in her now soggy bed !
We believe that both Monty & Judy were originally kept in such a small space that they became used to making a mess indoors - it isn't their fault & after 12 years working with Judy I am pleased to say that she went to the toilet outside last Wednesday! - but seriously, she is much better these days.
Judy loves the Cats, she is fascinated by them & loved to get as close as possible. Here she is letting Arthur nuzzle her chin !
Clearly not all the Cats appreciate the attention, but those that don't mind the dogs enjoy the fuss !
